When is it justified?
Time can leave its mark on your face in various ways. Some people tend to have thin lines, while others have deep wrinkles or sagging contours. Non-invasive cosmetic interventions such as botox, wrinkle filling and peeling treatments might not bring satisfying results after a while. In these cases, you might consider a facelift surgery that can correct the flabbiness of both the skin and the underlying muscles. Our plastic surgeon examines you during a preliminary consultation, informs you about possible surgical methods and shows you his reference works to illustrate the expected best outcome.
Before the surgery, you have to undergo a complete and throughout screening. To make the process more comfortable for you, we perform all the necessary screenings at our Institute in the same place and time. Besides laboratory tests, our surgeon might recommend you to have an ECG examination and an ultrasound screening. You also have to have a consultation with the anesthesiologist before the surgery. Your plastic surgeon will also inform you about the advised temporary adjustments in your lifestyle to speed up your recovery.
The course of the intervention
The chosen method depends on the age of the patient, the condition of his or her skin, the depth of the wrinkles. We usually recommend the so-called “mini lift”, or MACS Lift Facelift surgery for patients aged 35-55 that only involves the mid-face area. However, for patients above the age of 55, a complete facelift and neck surgery brings the best solution. During a MACS Lift surgery the specialist makes incisions in front of the ear that stretch to the hairline at ear level, and corrects sagging soft tissues and the underlying muscles through them.
In case of a complete facelift, additional incisions are made behind the ear, on the skin of the side of the scalp and under the jaw. Through these the underlying sagging muscles are pulled back into their original position. The surgery is finished by removing the excess skin. This type of facelift can be combined with eyelid surgery and wrinkle filling. It is performed in anesthesia and takes 2-3 hours. The absorbable sutures our plastic surgeon uses will spare you the unpleasantness of having the stitches removed.
Recovery and aftercare
Following the intervention you spend 36 hours in our hospital where you can relax in a calm and exclusive environment. You have to wear a special compression garment on your face for 7 days. It is important to avoid any strenuous physical activity for the first two weeks and even after this period, return to your previous lifestyle gradually, but 3 weeks after the surgery some light exercise is allowed. It is not recommended to visit a tanning salon or sauna for two months. Your control examinations will be scheduled for the 7th and 14th days after the intervention, and two additional ones during week 6 and 12. Your visible scars will disappear in approximately 6 months, and the skin-deep scars will heal in 2 years.
The risk of complications is very low, but if there is any, it can only be wound infection, whey and blood accumulation or a keloid scar.
