When is it justified?
As time passes, the elasticity of the skin is waning, which is a perfectly natural implication of the aging process. The signs vary from person to person: some develop wrinkles, while others only experience sagging skin, and some people might experience both. When non-invasive cosmetic methods and laser treatment do not help anymore, the skin of the neck area can still be tightened and rejuvenated by plastic surgery. In some cases, local liposuction might still help, but more often than not a surgical intervention is also needed to achieve the optimal effect. Our plastic surgeon examines you during a preliminary consultation and shows you his reference works to illustrate the expected best outcome.
Before the surgery, you have to undergo a complete and throughout screening. To make the process more comfortable for you, we perform all the necessary screenings at our Institute in the same place and time. Besides laboratory tests, our surgeon might recommend you to have an ECG examination and an ultrasound screening. You also have to have a consultation with the anesthesiologist before the surgery. Your plastic surgeon will also inform you about the advised temporary adjustments in your lifestyle to speed up your recovery.
The course of the intervention
Vacuum liposuction of the neck area is performed through small incisions made behind the ears. If the connective tissues of the skin are so weakened that the excess skin must be removed, it is done through more incisions behind the ear and on the scalp. In some cases rejoining parted neck muscles might be also necessary. The surgery is performed in anesthesia and usually only takes 1- 1 and a half hour. The absorbable sutures we use will spare you the unpleasantness of having the stitches removed.
Recovery and aftercare
Following the intervention you spend one night in our hospital where you can relax in a calm and exclusive environment. You have to wear an elastic band we provide for 2 weeks. Your next might be tender, swollen or hemorrhaged, but these symptoms will cease in a few days time. It is important to avoid any strenuous physical activity for the first two weeks and even after this period, return to your previous lifestyle gradually, in small steps. However, light exercise is allowed after three weeks. It is not recommended to visit a tanning salon or sauna for 2 months. Your control examinations will be scheduled for the 7th and 14th days, then during weeks 6 and 12 after your surgery. Visible scars will disappear in 6 months, while the skin-deep ones will completely heal in 2 years.
The risk of complications is very low, but if there is any, it can only be wound infection, whey and blood accumulation or a keloid scar.
