Which week?

Week 25

As the little one is very active these days performing amazing gymnastic exercises in your belly, he needs to take his rest too. Thus, there might be times when he does not move at all for a whole day, but you do not need to worry, this is perfectly normal. Caress your belly, sing for and talk to your child. You will both enjoy it a lot!

The expectant mother

You continue to gain weight, but not only because of your increased appetite: there is a protective mechanism in your body. By making food stay longer in your stomach so more nutrients are absorbed, it ensures that the baby is nourished properly. The unpleasant side effect is that you amass some body fat in the process. A healthy weight gain is approximately 7-8 kilograms until week 30. If you pay attention to what you eat and keep exercising, it will not be hard to get back into shape after delivery.

The baby

The infant weighs approximately 710 grams, and his bones are getting harder and stronger. The structure of his spine is also strengthening, and his manual dexterity is increasing: now he can make his hands into a fist. His skin is less transparent, but still wrinkled. His nostrils are open and he is regularly experimenting with respiratory moves now that the veins of his lungs are fully developed. His taste buds are also more than ready as he possesses more of them now than he will after being born.

Examinations

If you did not have a glucose stress test last week, now is the time to go through with it. It consists of sampling your blood twice: once on an empty stomach, and then after drinking a sugary solution. Values are deemed abnormal if your blood sugar level is above 5,8 mmol/l on the first test and above 7,8 mmol/l on the second. Gestational diabetes usually ceases after delivery. The antenatal course starts this week. It is your choice whether you want to come to pregnancy gymnastics, maternity yoga or a massage to our institute. Keep in mind not to eat spicy food, as your baby dislikes strong tastes, thus if you do so, he will not drink as much from the amniotic fluid.

Doctor’s advice

Constipation is a frequent complaint of pregnant women. In order to avoid or to solve it, eat a lot of fiber-containing food, watermelons, beans, raisins, brown rice, bran, kiwi and grapes.

Lifestyle

Most women feel pressed for time. Weeks keep flying by, and you might feel like there is still a lot to do and prepare before the little one arrives. Often the most problematic point is furnishing the baby’s room. Start to plan where to put everything and then buy the furniture.
