Which week?

Week 7

This week brings more exciting events than the previous one: you might start to notice the mental and physical changes that are taking place within you. This is the time when most women really become aware of the fact that they are pregnant.

The expectant mother

The less lucky are fighting constant nausea and are throwing up all the time during these days. The ongoing hormonal changes might cause acne and spots as a side effect. Your mood tends to be unstable and swing from one extreme to the other in a matter of minutes. At the moment, your womb is the size of a small ball, and you should expect the further growth of your breasts.

The baby

Arms and legs develop from the limb buds, and the fingers become distinct. Eyes, ears and the nostrils become visible, and the embryo is now able to move its mouth. His size is approximately 7-9 mms by this time, but even though genitals are present, the gender cannot be determined for sure. The baby’s heart now has a left and right ventricle, his trachea and esophagus are separated, and his kidneys start to develop. The embryonic stem and the activity of the heart can be detected by vaginal ultrasound. The baby’s heart beats 140-150 in a minute.

Examinations

As long as you do not have any problems, you do not have to be examined during this week.

Doctor’s advice

It is advised to start obtaining comfortable bras (preferably sports bras) and trousers. When choosing trousers, keep in mind that they must not be too tight on your belly. Watch your weight: at this early stage, you should not be gaining extra kilograms yet.

Lifestyle

You should pay more attention to skin care, as your skin is now more prone to becoming oily and spotty. In order to make it better, use fragrance-free face wash and scrub it regularly. If you are taking vitamin B6 for your nausea, it might lessen your skin problems as well. If you go to a beauty parlor, do not forget to mention that you are expecting, as certain cosmetics are not recommended for pregnant women.
