Rheumatology

This specialty deals with painful and functional locomotor disorders.

Symptoms are usually a result of the combination of hereditary, environmental and lifestyle-induced damaging factors which can be moderated by targeted preventive programs.

A distinction can be made between inflammatory and abrasion-induced rheumatologic disorders. In both cases, diseases can be further divided according to the areas they affect: the joints, the spine, the soft tissues (tendons, muscles and connective tissues) and bone structure in general. Apart from these, diseases of other organs may also cause locomotor disorders.

During a rheumatologic check-up, after the revision of medical history, joint movement, muscle strength, pain, sensory disorders and reflexes are assessed with physical examination.

X-ray examinations and detailed laboratory tests are also available if needed, and whenever comorbidity is suspected, our rheumatologist consults specialists of other fields along with prescribing an ultrasound examination of joints, CT and MR.

Therapy is based on two pillars: medication and non-drug treatment. Almost all patients have to change their lifestyle to some degree in order to get better, such as learning and regularly doing physiotherapy exercise or lose weight to lessen complaints.

In case of serious disorders, medication cannot be avoided. Drugs can be taken curatively or continuously, as pills or injections. If you have reached a state of permanent disability, rehabilitation, using special kits and making your environment accessible helps.
