Urology and Prostate Screening

Urology screenings target two main age groups, because the risk of urological diseases is slightly lower during the ages in-between. Between ages 14-30, examining the testicles is the most important. Patients should learn and perform self-examination every month. Between 30 and 40, men are usually free from the risk of any urological tumors, however, it is still recommended to have annual check-ups just to be safe. Prostatitis is most common in this age group. Above the age of 40, it is of utmost importance to have annual prostate screenings, and above the age of 50, an additional PSA test is highly recommended. Above the age of 60, urology visits are advised every 6 months.

Part of the screening is palpation of the abdomen and the kidney area, and the inspection of the genitals. The kidneys, the bladder, the prostate, the seminal vesicles, the testicles and the epididymis are checked by ultrasound. Urinalysis and blood testing might provide further data if needed, allowing the evaluation PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) level, because it shows the presence of malignant tumors with almost 100% accuracy. If based on the results it is deemed necessary, CT and MRI examinations of abdominal and pelvic organs are also performed.

Our urologist performs the most unpleasant part of the screening; the palpation of the prostate through the rectum with utmost empathy and care. This process only lasts five seconds.
