Immunology

Immunologists are concerned with the physiological functions of the immune system: they study its healthy and pathological defensive reactions.

The immune system is the defensive mechanism of the body that differentiates between its own substances and foreign ones - antigens - and removes or destroys the latter ones.

Antibodies in the blood are called immunoglobulins and their function is to identify and neutralize foreign objects (bacteria and viruses). A drastic rise or fall in the number of immunoglobulins can result in different conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivities, immune deficiency, etc.

Autoimmune disorder occurs when the immune system mistakenly identifies body tissues as foreign objects and attacks them. When this happens, our specialists’ task is to suppress the immune system, start an anti-inflammatory therapy and treat the symptoms.

Allergies are also immunologic disorders, thus our immunologists always cooperate with allergologists throughout the therapy.
